“The Palestinian cause is not a cause for Palestinians only, but a cause for every revolutionary, wherever he is, as a cause of the exploited and oppressed masses in our era.”
Will the words of the Palestinian freedom fighter and writer Ghassan Kanafani reverberate coldly across the hollowed-out rubble of Gaza’s razed streets? Or will they ignite the hearts of people with good conscience to end the cruel and senseless carnage visited upon Palestinians by Western imperialists?
This is the urgent dilemma we face in this moment. And we only have a moment to act.
Already thousands have perished in indiscriminate bombings by Israel’s powerful, US-backed military, which has made plain in public comments and actions that it intends to inflict collective punishment on Palestinians in violation of international law. Worse still, the US government has expressed unequivocal support for this genocidal aggression without any attempt to restrain the use of force or even to acknowledge the humanity and suffering of the Palestinian people. Palestine remains cut off from food, water, electricity, and telecommunications in such a manner that the murder of friends, loved ones, and comrades in Gaza may happen under the cover of darkness.
Alight with revolutionary love and compassion, we must do everything we can to stop this—now.
The Palestinian struggle is the global struggle—for land back and housing, for climate justice, for an end to the prison industrial complex, against war and militarism, for women’s rights and reproductive justice, and for self-determination. It is the ancient struggle against colonization and the new struggle to free us from a failing capitalist system that is constantly reaching for the engine of war to sustain its dying breaths.
This moment, which gives us no time to waste, is also a referendum on our collective humanity. We cannot be defeated in the face of human depravity and human suffering. We cannot let genocide transpire again.
We must stand with Palestine and all oppressed people now and forever.
