CPE Internship

The Center for Political Education (CPE) is a resource for political organizations on the left, progressive social movements, the working class, and people of color. CPE’s approach is committed to a critical analysis of local, regional, and global politics. We believe that organizing and activism grounded in strong theory and ideas are important tools for movement building. We are committed to providing a left space and perspective for organizers and activists by hosting classes, educational forums, study groups, presentations, film series and dialogues.

CPE is looking for people who are interested in unpaid internships with our organization. CPE interns will work up to 10 hours per week in support of the organization during an agreed-upon period of time to be determined on a case by case basis. Tasks may include:

Fundraising

    • researching possible funding sources

    • helping design and execute the Friends of CPE campaign

    • making direct requests for donations

Communications

    • updating individual contacts database

    • helping draft and distribute CPE news and announcements

    • transcribing event audio for prison distribution

Programs

    • researching and compiling information about new books, article, films, etc.

    • creating a database for event venues

    • videography (some experience/skill required)

    • video/sound editing (experience required)

    • working during CPE events

Outreach

    • creating an organizational database sorted by sectors

    • making outreach calls and sending outreach emails

  2. the period for which you are seeking an internship (when do you want to start and finish your internship?)

  3. whether or not you are doing an internship as part of your schooling. If you are interning for school, please include the name and contact information for the person at your school or university overseeing your internship.

  4. responses to the following questions:

    • In your own words, what is political education?

    • What experiences, if any, have you had with political education?

    • What is your interested in being part of a political education institution?

    • Why do you think political education is important for political organizations on the left, progressive social movements, the working class and people of color?

    • What skills do you feel you have to share with CPE?

    • What skills would you like to develop by interning with CPE?
